Beyond client work I have a wide range of interests and run several popular groups in Barcelona. I also write, draw, and experiment with technology and information visualization.
Selected Essays
- The WEIRD Bias in Generative AI. I explore how Western-dominated training data shapes AI responses, for example by erasing the Golden Age of Arabic Science from AI-generated histories of science.
- What in me is dark, Illumine: How Milton summoned the wrong muse. I love Paradise Lost. This is a tongue-in-cheek investigation into Paradise Lost's invocation scene, exploring why Milton may have accidentally summoned Satan. Was William Blake right in thinking Milton was "of the Devil's party without knowing it"?
- Update, memory. My experiments in using AI as an external memory system, inspired by Richard Branson's notebook habit and the slaves who served as living databases for Roman officials.
Creative Work
- Paradise Lost 2057. A reimagining of a scene Milton's epic as a wordless illustrated story which an artist requested of me.
